1. World Computer Chess Championships The WCCCs will be co-located with ECAI 2024, the European Conference on Artificial Intelligence. This will be the 50th anniversary of a series of tournaments that began in Stockholm, 1974. Coincidentally, this is also the 50th anniversary of ECAI. The WCCCs will be held in beautiful Santiago de Compostela, Spain, October 19-24. Thank you to our generous sponsor, DeepMind. After 50 years of benchmarking computer chess progress, it is time to end the series. This will be the final WCCC organized by the ICGA.
2. CHESS To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the World Computer Chess Championship, we are holding a special event. The Chess History, Experiments, and Search Symposium (CHESS) is inviting many of the pioneers of computer chess to the 50th World Computer Chess Championship. Chess programs have gone from 1600 ELO (1974) to 3600 ELO (today), and these pioneers sowed the seeds for this success -- a milestone in AI history. At CHESS, we will greet old friends, reminisce about the early days of AI software development, and celebrate the incredible successes that our community has had. This event is only possible through the generous sponsorship of DeepMind. Plan to join us in Spain for a historic celebration of AI and games.
3. Computers and Games 2024 conference If you haven't already done so, start writing your papers for CG. The submission deadline is September 8. The Call For Papers can be found here.
4. Computer Olympiad 2024 The Computer Olympiad will start mid-August and end mid-Septmeber this year. More details will soon be on the ICGA web page.
5. ICGA Leadership My term as president of the ICGA was for three years. Because of the pandemic, the term was extended. I am stepping down as President at the end of this calendar year, after serving for almost five and a half years. We need a new President. Anyone who is interested, please contact me and I can give you more information about the role and its responsibilities. This is a great leadership opportunity. Don't pass it up! Hiroyuki Iida will also be stepping down as ICGA Treasurer at the end of the year. He has served in this role for a very long time -- decades! The ICGA community has benefitted enormously from his generous commitment of time to helping advance our shared goals. Thank you Hiroyuki! Again, this a great opportunity to play a leadership role with the ICGA.
